How does the insurance process work?

The roof insurance claim process typically begins with a damage assessment, either by a roofing contractor or an insurance adjuster. Once damage is confirmed, you file a claim with your insurance company. The insurer then sends an adjuster to inspect the roof and determine the cost of repairs or replacement. If approved, the insurance company provides an initial payment based on the actual cash value of the roof, minus your deductible. You then hire a contractor to complete the work. After the roof is replaced, you submit proof of completion to the insurer, who then releases the remaining funds, including any recoverable depreciation. Throughout the process, it’s important to document all damage, understand your policy coverage, and communicate effectively with both your insurance company and roofing contractor.

How do I know if I need a new roof?

It depends on the type of roof you have. Consider the age of the system, anything over 10 years should be closely monitored, especially in Texas. Look for sagging, water leaks or stains on the drywall, algae growth on shingles, or can see light coming through the roof from the attic. All of there items can compromise and affect the integrity of a roof system. Be sure to call your roofing professional regularly for annual inspections!

How much does a new roof cost?

When working with insurance, all the homeowner is responsible for is paying their deductible and any additional upgrades if applicable. If the homeowner is paying cash, the price typically ranges from $7,866 to $15,209.
